About Us
The Family You Can Trust With Your Move
David Lohnes, owner of Lohnes Family Moving, is the eldest of four brothers, born in Los Angeles, California. His roots in transportation run deep—his great-grandfather founded Daniel Lohnes Trucking in Los Angeles back in 1910, establishing a legacy of hard work and dedication.
On his maternal side, David’s great-grandfather was none other than Red Foley, a pioneering country music artist and the first to record in Nashville. Known for timeless songs like Peace in the Valley, Just a Closer Walk with Thee, and Old Shep, Foley was inducted into the Country Music Hall of Fame in 1967.
A fun fact for fellow Memphians: On October 3, 1945, a ten-year-old Elvis Presley gave his first public performance by singing Old Shep. Dressed as a cowboy, he had to stand on a chair to reach the microphone—a moment that would mark the beginning of an iconic career. Elvis would later record Old Shep on his second album.

Our Story
David and his wife Tamara Lohnes bring over 40 years of combined experience in the professional moving industry. David began his career in 1998 in Seattle, Washington, where he learned the moving business from the ground up—packing, loading, driving, and managing logistics.
In late 2000, a new chapter began when David moved to Nashville. This move not only brought him back to his roots, but also led to the launch of his first moving company—and most importantly, to meeting Tamara. Together, they grew their business from just three trucks and a few team members into a thriving operation with 20 trucks and over 100 employees. In 2010, they sold the company and relocated to Memphis, TN to focus on what they consider their greatest accomplishment: raising their two children, Elise and Linken.
